A COURSE ON CRITICAL THINKING

A couple of years ago we had been asked to set up a course on critical thinking for the liberal arts non-mandatory program at the Leuphana University Lueneburg. We did and I am still sad that it never actually came to our "Denkwaschsalon" (thinking laundromat) because - surprise - not enough students enrolled.

In Finland this kind of course would be part of a regular education curriculum as this article illustrates. We think critical thinking and media literacy are not only indispensable skills in any democratic society, but vital for any human in any society. Being able (and having the means) to distinguish between different levels of truth is fundamental for our survival.

So the concept for our Denkwaschsalon still sits in our drawer. We are hoping that we will find the time and place to take that idea up again.
